AT-HOME PEDIATRIC DENTAL INSTRUCTIONS & BRUSH TIMER SATELLITE BEACH
As Easy as Putting a Shell to Your Ear
Consistent brushing is one of the most important factors when it comes to the long-term health of your child’s teeth and smile. To make sure they are brushing correctly and for the right length of time, we’ve included a handy guide and even a timer you can use below. You’ll also find a short list of products we recommend that you may want to take home with you.
Brushing & Flossing Tips for Kids
When a first tooth shows up, brushing should begin with ONLY water. Per the American Academy of Pediatric Dentistry, wait until children are two years of age before introducing fluoride toothpaste. When a child reaches the age of 3, parents can allow them to brush their own teeth with careful supervision; it's important to make sure they only use a small amount of fluoride toothpaste (roughly the size of a pea). By the time they reach 6 years old, it's recommended that they're brushing their teeth independently. Make sure to take some time and teach them to brush their smile in quadrants, spending at least 30 seconds in each section and carefully brushing the top, back, front, and sides of each individual tooth.
At Beachside Smiles Pediatric Dentistry, we frequently use RiseWell, Prevident, MI Paste, and MI Paste Plus products because they are gentle, effective, and also come with and without fluoride. They can be particularly helpful for children who are more cavity-prone. We’re happy to make more individualized recommendations if needed.
Brush Timer
Ideally, your child should brush their teeth for two minutes twice a day, once in the morning and right before going to bed. This video can serve as a timer to make things nice and simple for everyone. Before you know it, you’ll both be whistling the song around the house!
